Yinka Shonibare is a British-Nigerian artist living in London. His work is easily identified by the brightly coloured African fabric which was inspired by the culture he was brought up in after moving to Nigeria at the age of three. Shonibare’s work includes paintings, sculpture, photography and film which all explore the issues of race and class.
Shonibare’s work has appeared in major exhibitions all over the world such as Santa Barbara Museum of Art, California (2009), Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, New York, (2005) and Fabric Workshop and Museum, Philadelphia (2004). He has also won many awards including the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2005.
